An Announcement and a Request
Dear friends,
Those of you who live n the vicinity of Washington D.C. likely know that the city is currently the venue for a new musical play at the Voices Festival about the assassination 30 years ago of Yitzhak Rabin z”l, which was commemorated and freshly lamented last month.
I haven’t yet seen the play, but will be there for its last showing, which is this Sunday, Dec. 7 (a date which carries its own heavy load), at 3PM at the Universalist National Memorial Church, 1810 16th Street, NW, Washington, DC. That showing will be co-sponsored by my own organization, Partners for Progressive Israel, and will be followed by a discussion about the play between Rabbis David Saperstein and Margo Hughes-Robinson (Executive Director of PPI), moderated by Ron Kampeas. Full information on the play and the Voices Festival is here and you can follow the links to get tickets. Or, you can skip the intermediate steps and reserve your tickets here.
I’m very much looking forward to seeing it (a musical about an assassination?!) and also seeing old and new friends. I hope you will be able to come and we can say hello (or, more likely, I’ll talk your ear off about Israeli history).
Request
Given today has been anointed as “Giving Tuesday,” I’m also suggesting that those of you who are so inclined make a contribution to Partners. It’s the small NGO’s like Partners that are helping to form and channel the energies of liberal American Jews (i.e. the vast majority) whose views on a whole range of issues, but especially on Israel, are not represented by our elected national leaders nor by the Jewish establishment organizations. Partners is one of those pushing the boundaries in seeking a new path.
This Substack is by no means a mouthpiece for Partners but, as president, I guess my views pretty much align with it. So, please, if you like what you’re reading, consider a tax-free donation to Partners for Progressive Israel today.
I hope to see you on Sunday.
Paul
